What Customers Say About Samsung BD-P2500 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player:

It's only happened twice so far, but it's still irritating. The first standard SD DVD I tried to play on this didn't work until I updated the firmware using the USB method. I think I'd spring for an extended warranty for this player if I had the option - it just seems like the technology is great, but the engineering isn't.Also, the player looks really nice and works perfectly with my Samsung HDTV. Turning the player off and back on (with the accompanying very slow loading start up time) has fixed it.Overall, great video quality, but sketchy operation. After that, every DVD has worked fine and the SD up-conversion is really nice.I connected the player to my home wifi network, and the player configured itself and I was on Netflix immediately (you must dothe firmware update first). I'm really surprised at the Netflix SD and HD performance - much better than my computer - videos look great and no hang-ups.One problem I have is that the player occasionally seems to get hung up while trying to access the player (not DVD) menu - I got a green screen.

They received the original unit the 27th of May. Within a few weeks noticed that the player would stop responding during movies (both bluray & dvd) to the remote control and the panel controls. At this point, I have no choice but to continue to play their game in hopes of getting a functional unit for the nearly $400 I spent in February. In summary - if I had this to do over again I WOULD NOT PURCHASE A SAMSUNG UNIT.Their products are shoddy and their customer support is unsatisfactory at best. I immediately called tech support (for the nearly 50th time). Looked on the support site and upgraded firmware as instructed. Loved it at first. If I could get my money back and get off this merry go round, I would. Picture and sound are great and I love the Netflix & Pandora connectivity.

After they walked me through about 5 different steps that I had already done myself, they concluded that it needed repair and I should send it in (despite being a unit that was only weeks old). I purchased this product for my husband's birthday in February. Rather than apologetically offering to send me out another unit immediately, I was instructed to once again send the unit in so they can inspect it for damage and then possibly repair it. After reciting my long story and referencing my case file (which by this time was quite large) I was told this was my only option. I soon noticed that if you touch the power cord near the back of the unit, the player spontaneously turns off and on.

Within 15 minutes of setup, it began making an electrical popping noise and the screen image would flash. And for all my trouble, they said they would send me a prepaid shipping label that I should get by email in 24 - 48 hours. Beware. After receiving my unit, they assured me that hopefully I would get a repaired or new unit within 7 - 14 working days. I just today received a replacement unit after waiting over a month - 3 of those weeks were spent calling daily to convince them they did indeed have my defective unit since my online status showed that I needed to send the unit in to them. I requested to speak to another supervisor and was told she would transfer my files to the next level and they would contact me within 48 - 72 hours. Great picture and sound - easy set up.

to report the problem. I unpacked the unit, plugged it in and set it up easily. When this didnt work, I contacted tech support. I was elated to receive the BDP - 3600 since it was a nice upgrade with some great new features.

By the way I am not an expert and have not compared this player with everything on the market just a few players at Best Buy and Fry's. This is a high quality product that does a great job with Blu-Ray as well as regular DVD video. The quality of the TV makes more of a difference than the player, so don't expect a good picture if you have a poor TV. You may want to walk through some of the stores and get feel for what you want, like I did. The up-scaling from normal DVD to HD is done with a dedicated chip and is quite good, so good in fact that you may wonder why you spent the extra money on a Blu-Ray disk. You can find cheaper players that are also pretty good so no 5th star but if your TV is close to top of the line this player is probably worth it, especially if you have a lot of old DVDs that you don't want to replace.

I have uninstalled this device and hooked up my old upconverter Samsung player which works flawlessly. And if you are wondering, I did install all the latest firmware updates. The device was installed with a HDMI cable directly to a Samsung HD TV. Reference:Samsung BD-P2500 1080p Blu-Ray Disk PlayerI regret having purchased this device. Also, the Netflix download capability is useless unless the device is close to a computer's cable modem. This occurs both with and without a DVD in the player. It continually flashes on the screen or causes the screen to white out and then reappear. It makes movie watching most unenjoyable.

The tray would still slide in and out but that was about it. Alas, after 2 movies, it stopped working and no amount of resetting would bring it back to life. It was incredibly sharp and even upscaled our old DVD movies.

It lasted all of 2 days.Initial signs were not good. It did and setup was very easy. We had been looking for a blu-ray player for some time and finally bought this since it streamed netflix.

The picture was a lot better than our old DVD player. It was totally unresponsive and ultimately very disappointing.I will probably not buy from Samsung again. When it arrived, it was double boxed but there was only 1 piece of crumpled paper between the two boxes (no peanuts etc).- the inner box was free to slide inside the outer box.

In addition, the inner box was upside down in relation to the outer box.I did not return it at that point in the hope that it would still work.
